INDUSTRY CHALLENGES

Many cosmetic products are susceptible to microbial growth, especially those that contain water, ineffective preservatives, or nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and proteins. Microbial contamination can occur in raw materials; during production, filling and storage. Microbial contamination or the presence of certain pathogens can cause infections, particularly among vulnerable consumers.

Clean area clothing should be cleaned and handled in such a way that it does not gather additional contaminants which can later be shed. These operations should follow written procedures. Separate laundry facilities for such clothing are desirable. Inappropriate treatment of clothing will damage fibres and may increase the risk of shedding of particles.
